Matchday 11 Preview and Picks

The previews are back after a few weeks of traveling. We were 1 game from profitability last week, and much better after struggling the first few weeks. Let’s get into this slate of games.

Miami v ATL

Giorgos Giakoumakis is out for this match. The Greek has played extremely well in his first year and Atlanta arr +0.9xG/90 better with him on the field. Outside of GG, I don’t trust anyone on Atlanta to finish off the chances Thiago Almada will most certainly create.

Atlanta have not played well away from the Benz (outside of the drubbing against Charlotte). But in their last 4 road games, they have conceded 12 goals from just 5.3xG and kept their opponents under 1.0xG twice.

The Miami team is in purgatory as they hope to land Messi in the summer transfer window. With Jean Mota recently added to the injury list, they have no one to create in the midfield. Likely, their best attacks will come from Franco Negri at LB.

Injuries and the lack of attacking depth really lead me to an under here.

SJ v LAFC

The most anticipated game of the weekend will be at Levi’s Stadium. Once again, I will fade this LAFC team on the road once again. Away from the Banc, they haven’t dominated. Plus, they are coming off the biggest win of the year beating Philly Champions League on Wednesday, Obviously, it’s never easy to play against the best team in the league, but I’ll take a stand here.

Luchi Ball is in full effect. In my season preview, I was high on SJ moving away from Almeyda and giving Luchi a second chance as a MLS manager. They have the quality in the positions you need to be successful – GK, CB, #6, #10 and #9. Importantly, with Gruezo and Yueill in the midfield, they won’t turn the ball over which is a death sentence against LAFC.

FCD v StL CITY

God that Sunday night Minny-FCD game was ATROCIOUS. Minny dominated but could finish anything as FCD’s road woes continue. But, they return to Frisco and I like the to take all three points Jesus Ferreira is once again putting up elite-level numbers and Maarten Paes might be the best GK in the league that no one is talking about. Plus, he has elite level ball knowledge.

St. Louis have been the luckiest team in the league this year and will be without Klauss again after an injury two weeks ago. So, who will score the inevitable opponent pass that turns into a 1v1 with the GK? St. Louis’ pressing will give Dallas’s outside backs some trouble as that is a glaring weak point in the team. But, I trust in Jesus and Arriola here.
