Finally, the matches are here. Check out my Eastern Conference and Western Conference previews if you have not already. Let’s get into the picks.
DC v NE Revolution
Two teams with new managers face off against each other. The Revs dominated midweek despite scoring just one goal. Caleb Porter’s side had 65% possession and 10 shots on goal against Panamanian club Independiente. Goals maybe hard to find for the Revolution this year. Vironi has not been a consistent finisher at the #9, but Tomas Chancalay can be a threat from the right wing. Porter’s possession-based style works with the midfield 3 of Kaye, Polster, and Gil. New GK, Ravas, looked decent as well, but was hardly tested.
DC’s managerial change has more game model differences than New England’s change. Troy Lesesne will bring more of a pressing, high-energy style to the nation’s capital. I think this adjustment will take time to iron out the kinks. Plus, the lack of a clear chance creator in the midfield, I think it will be difficult for DC to find the back of the net.
- NE +0.5
LA Galaxy v Inter Miami
After an international preseason tour and kicking off the 2024 season on Wednesday night, Inter Miami trek across the country to LA for a primetime game Sunday night. From their first game, the box score will say Miami played very well. Yet the eye test says RSL had plenty of transition opportunities but didn’t have the quality to create or finish any chances. Ultimately, Miami allowed about 1.0xG to RSL and created 1.69xG.
RSL don’t have an elite #10, but LA Galaxy does. Riqui Puig, who is also a FC Barcelona academy player, creates chances at an ultra-elite level. Puig can dribble or make the killer pass in transition.

Miami’s energy levels dropped off a cliff the last 15 minutes Wednesday night. Now, they have to travel across the country on a short week. Further, it looks like LA Galaxy will have their two new DP players, Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec, available for at least a substitute debut. This game should be fun, back and forth, and have plenty of goals.

- LA Galaxy Team Total o1.5
Other Notes
- I played SJ +0.5 earlier in the week, but that number is no longer available.
- I like Minnesota +0.5, but Reynoso suffered a slight injury in training. If he starts, I will likely take them, too.
Good luck!
